The Family’s Change

 

After returning to their resting room, Marius noticed that Grevlin was seated, looking over his mother in silence. His mood was slightly gloomy as he sat with his arms hidden behind his zipper; it seemed as if he wanted to touch her, but he didn’t dare to use his palms.

Marius looked at his son gently as he knew he was worried about his arms. He thought for a bit before inspecting his details to see if he had any changes.

Marius was surprised as he saw his son’s details, he knew there would be changes now that they came to this world, but he didn’t think it would have been so absurd.

Such a powerful innate skill, his arms might be more dangerous than I’d imagine. If my guess is correct, and these star-★-levels are what I think they are, then it would mean that he can unleash damage the same as myself despite only being partially awakened. It is truly a broken skill; I can see why it’s comparable to my own when it comes to skill mastery points. Mine is of the EX-Max rating, and his is of the S-MAX, but from this I can’t see any difference as they both require the same amount of skill mastery points to level up. It makes me wonder; how does our innate talent compare to those of this world? Would our inborn abilities be considered the norm or of a higher grade?

Marius had a pensive look as he glanced at Grevlin’s arms which were now a shade darker, slowly transitioning to a black hue.

His arms are also changing color, it looks like we’ll need to keep them hidden, or it might lead to more trouble than necessary, Marius assessed silently.

Thinking such thoughts, Marius wanted to find a solution but as if he recalled something, his eyes widened as he stared at Grevlin’s arms one more.

Wait a second, his skill effect for his arms did say that he couldn’t be able to wield artifacts. Did they mean weapons? Strange, he can usually hold spoons, other than shattering them to pieces with his uncontrolled strength, I’ve never seen such a side effect like corrosion. I’ll need to test this effect.

By this time, Grevlin, who had a slightly sullen look, lifted his head to see his father giving him a gentle look. His eyes beamed as he hurriedly ran forward and spoke in a lively tone, “Father, I’m bored; I want to play a game.”

Marius was pulled out of his thoughts. He stared at him with a look of curiosity, he spoke, “You want to play a game?”

“Yes!” Grevlin said with a smile.

Marius seeming to have an idea, stretched his hand to the side as he spoke, “Inventory.”

In that moment, Marius’ hand had entered the empty space itself, as if leaving the current dimension. His arm rustled about as if searching for something in a wide and spacious box.

Grevlin looked at this with calm eyes as if he was used to it, he watched in silence and anticipation, awaiting the game his father would play with him.

Not long after, Marius’ arm had left the space taking out a small knife. He twirled it on his finger as he smirked and spoke to Grevlin in a teasing tone.

“Okay since that’s your wish, we’ll play a game. I want you to grab onto this knife and hold it for ten seconds, come let father see how you’ve improved your skills.”

Grevlin was a bit hesitant at first, but as he saw that the knife was of pure metal, he clenched his fist and replied, “Okay.”

Not waiting a moment, Marius handed over the knife to Grevlin, who then used one hand to hold it gently onto the surface of his palm. Cautiously, he moved his other hand towards it, using the tip of his thumb and index finger to grasp onto it like a plyer.

“Hehe, father look, I did it!” Grevlin said as his eyes showed excitement. He used his full palm to properly grasp the knife but making sure not to squeeze it. He had thought it would remain the same, but sadly, that was only his illusion. In a series of wrenching noises, the knife began to bend out of shape, soon losing its form.

“I, I…” Grevlin muttered as his excitement soon died down as he saw the crushed-up metal in his hand.

Marius looked on in silence as he pondered. So, it’s not the fact that he can’t hold objects. But an entirely different matter. Since its so, then it’s in relation to him using his arms in combat. Maybe it’s only active when he uses his mana power, but right now, I can’t just tell him to use it as he probably wouldn’t have a clear idea how to control it.

Wrapping up his thoughts, Marius took away the crumpled knife and spoke before he got depressed. “Grev, you did good, for now let’s play another game.”

“But dad, the knife…” Grevlin said as he looked at his father with a sad look.

Marius only smiled and teased, “Hehe, why so sad? It’s only a useless trinket anyway. Come now, we’ll play a game we haven’t in a long time, a special game of – try not to laugh.”

Grevlin was a bit confused at first, but before he could understand, Marius had already taken action. His arms moved quickly and tickled his sides, causing him to fidget in innocent laughter, “Hahaha! Father, stop! Hahaha! Stop! Hahaha!”

While Marius tickled his son, he shifted his eyes onto Rose who slept and commanded to see her stats within his mind.

Another Growth Limit, so they won’t be able to advance beyond level 10 until they’re older, maybe 11, 12, or even 13. Still, even with this kind of limit, once their inborn skills enhance, their strength will only continue to grow more powerful, stronger than anyone else in their current stage. Hmm, this is good, it would give time for Grevlin to learn about control, but as for Rose, she might need some more time away from others.

Marius soon cleared his thoughts. He then glanced at his sleeping wife and sent the same command, but he frowned as he got a different response.

Ria’s strength must have been quite high, even though most of her abilities are still sealed, leaving only her inborn ability and a few sealed skills. I wonder, how long will it take? As Marius pondered here, he couldn’t help but shake his head as a firm look came on his face when he decided.

It doesn’t matter how strong she was; as a man, I shouldn’t let myself be weaker than my own wife. The best thing I can do right now is to strengthen even further. After this, I’ll use the time to reach a decent level before I begin to train Grevlin in the methods I had originally planned to teach him at twelve.

With his mind clear, Marius had unconsciously stopped tickling Grevlin, causing him to look at him as he spoke, “Father, what’s wrong?”

Marius sighed, staring at Grevlin’s innocent look, knowing full well that he would need to teach him harshly as the usual ethics won’t do in this world. He rubbed his head and spoke with a smile, “It’s nothing. Come on now, let’s get some sleep after resting up. We’ll check on your mother again before we start to practice with your arms.”

Grevlin nodded at his father’s words; he was feeling a bit sleepy himself as it was late back when they were on Earth, and they had only now transferred to this world.

Marius then lifted Grevlin placing him on the bed with Rose. After tucking him in, he waited until he fell asleep before he sat down by Ria’s side. He then leaned his back against the wall staring through the window at the room’s end as if pondering the unknown.
